Teachers and students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) here staged demonstrations on the campus for the second consecutive day on Thursday demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of Saad Ibn Momtaj.

The agitating students staged a sit-in in front of the administrative building, brought out protest procession on the campus and laid siege to the Vice-chancellor’s residence in the morning to press home their demand.

Expressing their solidarity with all the demand of the students, BAU Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) members joined them around 12:30 pm.

Both the teachers and students demanded ensuring punishment to the killers of Saad immediately, their expulsion from the university, safety for all students and resignation of the administrative officers for their failures to ensure safety on the campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lutful Hasan, president of BAUTA, said those who were involved in the killing of Saad must be identified and brought to book within Monday.

He also announced to boycott all classes and examinations until Monday.

Meanwhile, additional police have been deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incident.

Saad, a final year student of the fisheries faculty of the university, was beaten to death allegedly by activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League BAU unit.

However, leaders of the pro-Awami League students’ front denied the accusation.
