Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the first phase works on the much-talked-about ‘Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project’ in Pabna on October 2 next.
This was revealed at the 60th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Undertakings held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday.
Held With committee chairman M Ali Ashraf, MP in the chair, the meeting was attended, among others, by M Dabirul Islam, MP, Shamsur Rahman Sharif, MP, Rasheda Begum Hira, MP and ABM Mozammel Haque, MP.
It was told in the meeting that an agreement was signed with Russian constructor JSC Atomstroyenport over the construction of 2000 MW-capacity nuclear power plant involving Tk 5087 crore.
The meeting also recommended taking necessary steps to make sure that all brick-kilns use environment-friendly chimney to check environment pollution.
Besides, the meeting also suggested the Communications Ministry to take steps to put an end to plying the highways of diesel-run vehicles like Nasimon, Karimon and Bhutbhuti.
