Padma erosion snaps Mawa-Bhagyakul-Dohar road links

 

The direct road communications of Mawa with Bhagyakul and Dohar remained snapped from Friday morning as the mighty Padma devoured the road at its mouth at Mawa.

Witnesses said a stretch of 100 feet land in Mawa Puratan Ferryghat area disappeared into the river in the morning due to serious erosion, halting communications on Mawa-Bhagyakul-Dohar road.

Mawa Police outpost is now only 100 yards off the Padma river as the erosion took a serious turn.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) parking yard, Mawa Port Weather Forecast building and many more homesteads are in the risk of disappearing into the river anytime.

Earlier, homesteads of over 100 families were already eaten up by the river and many of the victims were living under the open sky in the parking yard.

On the other hand, many establishments were being shifted gradually to safer places owing to erosion scare prevailing among people of the area.

The erosion started to occur on August 31 at the outset of the monsoon season.
