NCC to write to ministry for removing Nur, Badal

 Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) on Monday decided to write to the LGRD Ministry to remove Nur Hossain, prime accused in the sensational seven-murder case, and his nephew Shahjalal Badal as counsillor.

The decision was taken at the monthly NCC meeting held at the Nagar Bhaban with Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in the chair.

Meeting sources said the two councillors remained absent from the monthly meeting for the fourth time on the trot.

The meeting also decided to write to the ministry to take action against councillor Ali Ahammad who has been paralysed since long.

As per the relevant laws, if a city councillor remains absent from meeting for the third consecutive time without any reasonable grounds, he/she could be removed from the post.

After the gruesome killings of seven people, including city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker, NCC councillor from ward-4 Nur Hossain and his nephew Shahjalal Badal from ward-3 went into hiding although Nur was later arrested in India.

They skipped four monthly meetings of the city corporation.

Meanwhile, a local court on Monday placed Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) member Lance Corporal Ruhul Amin on an eight-day fresh remand in a case filed over the seven murders.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Manowara Begum passed the order when he was produced before the court, seeking 10-day remand.

Earlier, the Rab man was put on remand two times in the case filed by Selina Islam, wife of slain panel mayor Nazrul Islam, for killing her husband and four others.

Police arrested Ruhul Amin from Baufal upazila of Patuakhali on October 7.

On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. At the same time, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.

Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1.

A total of 24 people, including 11 Rab members, have so far been arrested in connection with the sensational seven murders.
