They are Narayanganj district’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Nurul Islam, RAB commanding officer (CO) Tarek Sayeed Mahmud and OC of Fatulla Police Station Aktar Hossain.

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday night confirmed bdnews24.com of their withdrawal.

Asked whether they were removed over the abductions, he said, “Not exactly.”

The decision was made after taking “all the issues into account,” he added.

On Sunday noon, Narayanganj City Corporation’s ward number 2 Councillor Nazrul Islam, who is also a supporter of ruling Awami League, and four of his aides were abducted.

Around the same time, a senior lawyer in the district, Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver ‘Ibrahim’ also went missing.

Twelve days earlier, a group of unknown miscreants had abducted businessman Abu Bakar Siddique, husband of environmental lawyer Syeda Rizwana Hasan, from Bhuigarh on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.

He was, however, released by the abductors several days later and found in Dhaka’s Kalabagan.
