Internet speed may remain slow May 28

Internet users may experience slow internet speed on May 28 for eight hours, from 2:00pm to 10:00pm, due to the process of establishing connectivity with SEA- ME-WE-4 through a different route.

However, internet connectivity through BSCCL’s second submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE-5, and international terrestrial connectivity operators would remain intact during the period, said a press release of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company issued on Sunday.

Road construction work of the Road Transport and Highways Division and Cox’s Bazar Development Authority prompted BSCCL to construct a fresh route from the SEA-ME-WE-4 landing station to beach manhole.

Already the installation of cable for the fresh route was complete, the press release said, adding that the BSCCL has planned to establish connectivity with a new route of SEA-ME-WE-4 in assistance with SEA-ME-WE-4 consortium on May 28.

Bangladesh’s internet usage largely depends on the country’s connectivity with SEA-ME-WE-4 and SEA-ME-WE-5.

At present, the BSCCL provides around 1,550 gigabyte per second bandwidth out of the country’s demand around 1,900 Gbps.

Rest of the demands are being fulfilled by the ITCs.
