Govt & opposition vying for foreign powers’ support: Shafi

Ameer of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi on Wednesday said both the government and the major opposition party are engaged in an unruly competition of taking support from ‘foreign powers’ in their bid to gain political clout.

“Their ill mindset is a matter of disgrace for an independent nation. The country didn’t achieve independence to become slaves of foreigners,” he said in a written speech, read out by Hefajat organising secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi at a press conference.

Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh arranged the press conference at AB Community Hall of Hathazari Darul Ulum Madrasah in the morning.

Allama Shafi said Bangladesh has now become paralyzed due to the ongoing political violence that has erupted between the government and the opposition parties.

“The country is in trouble now. Incidents of killing, terrorism, anarchy and violation of human rights have crossed limit. Innocent people are being killed in so-called crossfire and petrol bomb attacks.”

He said there is no security of general people now as the ongoing political violence spread across the country, including cities, towns and rural areas.

“The country’s economy has already faced a setback…country is heading for a dark future,” the Hefajat chief said.

“The Alem community has already rejected the present leaderships,” he said, adding that the political parties must take responsibility if any plot is found that is designed to make the country another Iraq or Afghanistan through the aggression of foreign power.

Hefajat secretary general Junaid Babunagari and its senior nayeb-e-ameer Muhibullah Babunagari were, among others, present at the press conference.
