Factory sealed-off, owner among 5 jailed, 6 fined with money

An illegal homeopathy medicine factory has been busted and sealed-off at the capital’s North Badda on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a mobile court sentenced five persons, including the factory owner to jail in different periods from six months to one year and also fined 6 others with different amounts of money.

The mobile court led by executive magistrate Sharif Mohammad Farhad, also seized 36 types of medicines from the illegal factory named ‘Model Homeo Complex’.

Major Tawfiqul Bari of RAB 10 said: “RAB personnel and the mobile court launched the joint drive at the factory located on the 1st and 2nd floors of a five-storied building at Alir Mor in North Badda around 12noon.

“During the drive, we have seized at least 36 types of medicine manufactured at the factory. But only five types of them had the permission from the authorities concerned,” he added.

The Major said 31 types of medicines had been manufactured without permission from the Drugs Administration.

“Besides, we have found that Babar Ali, the factory owner, had prepared fake documents by forging the signature of the Director General of the Drugs Administration for manufacturing those 31 types of medicine,” he said.

RAB said they have seized medicines worth around Tk20 lakh.

According to the mobile court magistrate, Babar Ali was jailed for one year and fined Tk2 lakh while four others were jailed to six months each and the rest were fined Tk7.80 lakh.
