Ershad likely to take oath Friday

Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad who was elected MP from Rangpur-3 constituency in the 10th national election held on January 5 is likely to take oath on Friday, its presidium member Qazi Firoz Rashid told UNB on Thursday.

Soon after they were sworn in on Thursday, the JP MPs at a meeting at the opposition leader’s office at parliament Bhaban elected their party’s senior presidium member Rawshan Ershad as their leader in parliament. “We’ve elected Rawshan Ershad as our leader in parliament,” Rashid.

When asked whether Jatiya Party will join the new cabinet, he said they will join the cabinet as well as work as the main opposition in parliament as the new government is going to be formed on the basis of national consensus.

Another party presidium member M Mujibul Haque Chunnu said he heard that they will be the main opposition party and will join the new cabinet as well. “The party will take the final decision in this regard within a day or two,” he said.
