Couple among 5 killed in road crashes in Chandpur, Chuadanga

At least five people, including a couple, were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in Chandpur and Chuadanga districts on Saturday.

 

In Chandpur, three people, including a couple, were killed and five others injured as a minibus collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Moutabari intersection in Shahrasti upazila in the afternoon.

 

The deceased were identified as Alamgir Hossain, 42, his wife Sumi Akter, 26 and their relative Mazeda Begum, 55 of Tamta village of the upazila.

 

Police and witnesses said the accident took place around 5pm when a Hajiganj-bound minibus from Comilla collided head on with the auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction, killing Mazeda dead on the spot and injuring seven others.

 

Alamgir and his wife Sumi succumbed to their injuries on way to Shahrasti Upazila Health Complex.

 

In Chuadanga, two people, including a cattle trader, were killed on the spot as a cattle-laden trolley plunged into a roadside ditch at Bhultia on Jhenidah-Chuadang Highway around 6pm as its driver reportedly lost control over the steering.

 

The deceased were identified as Nazim Uddin, 55, and trolley driver Ziaur Rahman, 30.
