Fakhrul on Friday told a public hearing in Dhaka that the accidents in the country are increasing due to the absence of democracy and the government’s negligence.

“It’s an irresponsible comment,” Mahmud said. “But with this remark, Mirza Fakhrul indirectly tells us that they (BNP) might have links to the fire incident.”

Sixty-seven people were killed in a fire in Chawkbazar on Wednesday night in one of the deadliest accidents in recent memory.

“[I think] their (BNP’s) connection to the Chawkbazar fire should be investigated,” the minister said while unveiling two books at his Chattogram residence.
