Argentina president wants Messi back home

Argentina’s president Alberto Fernandez has called on Lionel Messi to return to his homeland and end his career with Newell’s Old Boys. Messi had recently communicated to the Barcelona management that he wants to leave, triggering the exit clause in his contract.

A number of European clubs are already keen on situation and if reports are to be believed, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are in pole position. Paris Saint-Germain, Inter and Juventus are also reportedly looking at the situation of the Barcelona star.

At 33, Messi is still showing charismatic form and wants to win the Champions League again while preparing for the next World Cup with Argentina. In his hometown of Rosario, fans of Newell’s Old Boys, where he played as a youngster before moving to Barcelona, recently paraded through the streets of in support of Messi returning to the club.

Argentina’s president has also voiced his desire to see such a reunion sooner or later.

“You are in our hearts and we have never seen you play in our country,” Fernandez said in a message directed at Messi via C5N.
