The Amnesty International has published a statement over the arrest warrant against Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman among 10 others.“Bangladesh authorities must take every caution to ensure that a legal proceeding against 10 people including the editor of Prothom Alo follows due process,” said Amnesty International South Asia on its verified Facebook page on Saturday.
The statement also includes, “Authorities must therefore, show restraint on any action that can amount to attack on freedom of expression in the country.”
Earlier 47 eminent citizens of the country condemned the arrest warrant for Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman and nine others in a case filed over the death due to alleged negligence, of Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar at a programme of Kishor Alo.
On 16 January, a Dhaka court issued arrest warrants against 10 persons, including editor and publisher of the Bangla daily Prothom Alo, Matiur Rahman, in the case filed over the accidental death of Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar.
