The deceased was identified as Pervin Akhter, 18, worker of ‘Karnaphuli Sportswear Ltd and daughter of Mahmud Sharif of Anwara upazila.

Inspector Arifur Rahman of Chittagong industrial police (intelligence branch) said the trouble started when the workers locked into an altercation with the factory authorities over their transport allowance.

A clash broke out when the workers turned violent and pelted brick chips at the law enforcers as they appeared at the spot being informed by the factory authorities.

The law enforcers fired rubber bullets and teargas shells during the clash that left 15 people, including Pervin, injured.

The injured workers were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared Pervin dead, said Abul Bashar, an officer of CMCH police camp.
