Wasfia Nazreen among National Geographic’s Adventurers of the Year

The list of the Adventurers of the Year was published on the National Geographic’s website on Friday.

Every year it nominates 10 achievers from different fields for the annual award.

According to National Geographic, she had been nominated as one of the recipients of the honour for the year 2014 in recognition of her achievement in empowering Bangladesh’s women and girls though her campaign.

The National Geographic has also announced a People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year for which one vote can be given to any of these ten adventurers every day on the website.

Names of winners will be announced in February 2015.

On June 9, 2012, Wasfia became the second Bangladeshi woman to scale the world’s highest peak. Before her, Nishat Mazumder conquered Everest.

Musa Ibrahim became the first ever Bangladeshi to reach the summit on May 23, 2010.

Following in his footsteps, MA Mohit and Nishat also achieved the feat two years later.

Wasfia has embarked on a daring seven summits’ expedition. She has already scaled six highest peaks of the six continents including Everest, Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro and South America’s Aconcagua.
