Two killed in Bangladesh in mortar shell fired from Myanmar

Two people were killed in a mortar shell fired from Myanmar in village Jalpaitoli of Ghumdhum union under Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 2:30pm, said Naikhongchhari police station officer-in-charge Abdul Mannan.

One of the dead is a Bangladeshi woman, Hosne Ara, 55, wife of Badsha Mia of Jalpaitoli village, and the other is a Rohingya man, Nabi Hossain, 65, of block 8-E of Balukhali Rohingya camp, he said.

Hosne Ara’s grandson, five-year old, suffered injuries as the shell exploded while he was taking meal in the kitchen.

The mortar shell fell on the kitchen of Hosne Ara in Jalpaitoli village, where Nabi Hossain came to work as a labourer.

 

 

Bullets and mortar shells have been fired into Bangladesh over the last two days as gun battle between Myanmar troops and their armed group called Arakan Army has escalated in Rakhain state of Myanmar.
