At least 50 people were injured as a shuttle train derailed today after miscreants uprooted rail lines in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The Lalmonirhat-bound Korotoa Express derailed around 4:30am after miscreants uprooted six to seven feet of rail line near Mahendranagar Railway Station, our correspondent reports quoting Manik Miah, the locomaster of the train.

All the four compartments and the engine derailed at the spot.

Some of the passengers of the train claimed that after it derailed, a group of masked miscreants mugged them as well.

Rescue workers reached the spot later in the morning.

Rail link of Lalmonirhat with the rest of the country remains suspended at the time of filing this report.

A four-member of probe team headed by Lalmonirhat Railway Divisional Traffic Superintendent Mostafizur Rahman was formed to investigate the incident.
