Denmark will launch its work plan with Bangladesh government for the next five years on Thursday at a high-level conference.
This strategic plan will mostly focus on improving working environment in factories.
The Danish government is hosting this high-level conference marking the second anniversary of Bangladesh’s worst-ever building collapse Rana Plaza.
After this collapse, Danish government like many others joined in the combined efforts to overhaul the ready-made garment sector’s factory safety and workers’ rights.
The conference will share the learning of such projects and how it can improve in future.
“Bangladesh has come a long way since Rana Plaza,” visiting Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation Mogens Jensen was quoted as saying in a statement on Wednesday before the conference.
“The country, the international community and the RMG sector have set new standards and introduced new forms of cooperation, which have not previously been seen anywhere in the world,” he said.
“There is still a way to go. But Bangladesh is already ‘Framing the Future’”.
Jensen will open the conference. Bangladesh’s commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, foreign minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and junior minister for labour and employment Mohammad Mujibul Haque will also join him.
Denmark is one of Bangladesh’s leading development partners that currently works in areas like water, sanitation, agriculture, human rights, and development sectors.
