Textile mill catches fire in Gazipur

A Textile mill has caught fire at Betjur area under Sreepur municipality around 1:45pm on Sunday

The fire ensued at the second floor of the seven-storey Dignity Textile Mills.

Till filing the report, 12 units of fire service were working to extinguish the fire.

Administrative manager Nazmunnahar Kemu said it was lunch break when the fire broke out in the third floor.

The fire was sensed when the smoke began to pour through the window of the of the warehouse in the south of the third floor.

Within moments the fire spread to the whole floor and burned everything to ashes.

Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Aktaruzzaman of Gazipur fire brigade said, hearing the news of the fire, the fire service personnel from Sreepur Maona and Gazipur started working on.

Later more teams from Gazipur, Tongi, Valuka and Savar EPZ, joined hand.

Now, 12 units are working to bring the fire under control.

The immediate cause of the fire and the amount of damages can not be ascertained immediately.

However, it is suspeced that the fire catches from an electrical short circuit.

Sripur municipality mayor Anisur Rahman, Sreepur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md Sadekur Rahman and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tofazzal Hossain of Sripur Police are at the spot.
