It was quite an eventful day in Chittagong after Bangladesh managed to draw the second Test against Sri Lanka as Tamim Iqbal resigned as vice-captain and coach Shane Jurgensen was furious with the media for showing up to an unofficial practice session yesterday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Tamim posted a status on his official facebook account at 11:45am, which read – “#BREAKING: Tamim Iqbal resigns from vice-captaincy. He says that he wants to concentrate on his batting.”

The left-hander confirmed the news to the Dhaka Tribune. “I wanted to concentrate on my batting first. I have already informed BCB about my decision,” he said, adding that he was unhappy with his performances against Sri Lanka. Tamim, Bangladesh’s star opening batsmen returned scores of 6, 11, 0 and 31 in his four innings in the Test series.

The chairman of the BCB Cricket Operations Akram Khan verified Tamim’s decision to quit as vice-captain, “Yes Tamim informed me about his decision and we are waiting for the BCB president Nazmul Hasan who will take the decision,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh coach Shane Jurgensen, who had announced on Saturday that there would be no practice session on Sunday (yesterday), was furious with the press for coming to the ground while he was running a practice session with six players.

Jurgensen as well as the players, refused to talk with the press and it was learnt that they were under instructions from the team management in so doing.

Both teams will have official practice today at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Sri Lanka’s session will begin at 12:30pm and Bangladesh will start at 4:00pm. The first T20 match between the two sides will take place on February 12.
