AHM Biplob, the son of ruling party leader Abu Taher of Lakshmipur and also a convict in three murder cases, has gotten married in prison on Friday afternoon.

Biplob was pardoned by President Zillur Rahman in the advocate Nurul Islam murder case, in which he was given death sentence in 2011.

Later in 2012, the late president granted mercy to the convicted killer for the second time. His life sentence in each of two murder cases has been reduced to a 10-year imprisonment.

Biplob, who is now serving 10-year jail sentence, married Sanjida Akhter, a honours second year student of Lakshmipur Government College.

Sanjida is the daughter of late advocate Abul Khayer, a member of “Pandit Bari,” the house of former Jamaat lawmaker Shafiqul Islam.

The nuptial took place at the Lakshmipur Jail gate around 5pm on Friday in presence of Abu Taher and the relatives of both sides.

Later, the relatives of both sides, riding on 40 motorbikes and three microbuses, brought the bride at the jail gate around 10pm.

The bride and the groom reportedly stayed at the jail gate till 1am.

Jailer of Lakshmipur Jail Jainal Abedin told the Dhaka Tribune: “Biplob was brought to the jail gate in the afternoon in order to complete the formalities of the nuptial. His relatives took the permission from the deputy commissioner earlier.”

“He was taken back to the jail immediately after the formalities were complete.”

However, he refused to make any comment over bringing the bride at the jail gate.

On the other hand, the Dhaka Tribune has tried to contact Lakshmipur DC Tipu Sultan for his comment over the issue. However, the Dhaka Tribune was not allowed to talk to him.

On December, 2003, the Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal of Chittagong awarded Biplob death penalty for killing advocate Nurul Islam, district BNP’s the then organising secretary.

He was abducted in 2000 and hacked to death.

Biplob also killed BNP activist Kamal and Shibir activist Mohsin in 2000.

He was awarded life term imprisonment in both the murder cases.
