Omar Faruque Talukdar

A Dhaka court on Monday ordered to send Omar Faruque Talukdar, the sacked assistant private secretary (APS) of former railways minister Suranjit Sengupta, to jail in a corruption case after rejecting his bail prayer.

Judge (vacation) Md Helal Uddin of the Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court passed the order after Faruque surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.

Earlier on November 27, another judge granted temporary bail to Faruque till today (Monday), the first day of a vacation court.

The judge on that day asked him to surrender before the court on December 10 and seek bail in the case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against key figure in the railwaygate scandal Faruque on August 14, 2012 on charge of amassing wealth of Tk 1.47 through illegal means.

Earlier on October 2, Faruque surrendered to the HC seeking anticipatory bail in the case. The HC after holding a hearing on the petition granted him an ad-interim bail for a period of eight weeks.
