The mobile court led by Magistrate Anwar Pasha seizes native birds from five shops at Kaptan Bazar in the capital on Monday.

A mobile court rescued 148 native birds including species like sparrow-kite and arrested 13 illegal bird traders in the capital’s Kaptan Bazar area on Monday.

The seizure of the birds turns the spotlight on the rising trend of caging the sparrow-like birds by illegal traders and selling them as pets.

The seized birds include myna, parrot, munia, sparrow and kite.

The mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion in a drive rescued 14 mynas, 18 parrots, 112 munias, three sparrows and a kite from five shops at Kaptan Bazar around 2:00pm, said Magistrate Anwar Pasha.

As per Bangladesh Wildlife (Protection and Safety) Act-2012, trapping, selling, buying, consuming or caging wild birds is a punishable offence.

The mobile court sentenced them to different jail terms and fined in different amounts.
