Shakib suspended for three ODIs

Allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been banned for three matches by the BCB for “making an inappropriate gesture on live television” during the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Mirpur.

He has also been fined BDT 300,000 ($3800).

Shakib was summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee on the eve of the final ODI against Sri Lanka and will now miss that game as well as Bangladesh’s first two Asia Cup matches – against India and Afghanistan.

“Shakib Al Hasan has been penalised for breaching the BCB Code of Conduct,” the board said. “Shakib appeared at a disciplinary hearing of the BCB on Friday and admitted the offence and accepted responsibility for the act.”

BCB’s acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, “Shakib was repentant for the incident and readily accepted that the behavior was unbecoming of a player of his experience and stature. We also reminded him that his action was unacceptable.”

The hosts had already lost the ODI series against before the third ODI, but Shakib’s absence for the first two Asia Cup matches is a severe blow to Bangladesh’s campaign, reports cricinfo.
