The educational institutes of the country will remain closed during Ramadan as the prime minister rejected the proposal of the education minister to continue classes until Ramadan 10.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina rejected the proposal during the informal discussion after the cabinet meeting held at the secretariat on Monday.

Primary Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman said: “A proposal was placed before the premier to continue classes until Ramadan 10 in all educational institutes to cover up the academic losses. But, the premier and several ministers opposed the proposal.”

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman will give official announcements soon in this regard.

They requested the education ministers to keep the academics off from the first day of the month of Ramadan. Finally, the premier instructed to take steps in this regard, Mustafizur Rahman said.

Another minister told the Dhaka tribune that Nurul Islam Nahid requested the premier to take decision on keeping the educational institutions open during the first half of Ramadan.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the minister rejecting his proposal that the mothers have to work until dawn during Ramadan. So, it will be a pressure for them. The ministry should try to keep the educational institutes open cutting the summer vacation,” the minister said seeking anonymity.

He told that several ministers tried to discuss about the Nur Hossain and Mirpur Bihari Palli issues. However, the premier did not allow for talks on the issues as the Cambodian Prime Minister is in Bangladesh now.
