Chief defence counsel Abdur Razzaq giving his reaction after SC awarded death penalty to Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah Tuesday.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah will file a review petition against the death penalty awarded to him by the Supreme Court for his wartime offences in 1971, chief defence counsel Abdur Razzaq said on Tuesday.

Terming the SC verdict as “wrong”, Razzaq said, “My client (Mollah) will file a review petition within 30 days after getting the full text of the apex court judgement.”

The death sentence of Mollah will not be executed until the review petition is disposed of, the counsel said while giving an immediate reaction over the verdict against Mollah.

“It is unprecedented in the history of Bangladesh that the Supreme Court has awarded death penalty to Mollah although the trial court had sentenced him for life,” he said.

According to SC rule, a convict can file a review petition against any apex court verdict.
