SC extends stay on HC order against mobile courts

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday extended for two more weeks the stay of the High Court order that declared illegal running mobile courts by executive magistrates.

A six-member bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing in the government appeal for staying the High Court verdict.

Attorney general Mahbubey Alam sought two weeks for his preparation.

Earlier, on May 11, the High Court declared illegal of the operation of mobile court by the executive magistrate and later on May 14 after hearing on a government appeal the chamber judge stayed until may 18.

Later on May 21, the SC adjourned the verdict of the High Court till July 2.

On July 4, the SC extended by two weeks its earlier order staying the High Court verdict.
