Provide security to minorities, ministry asks IGP, div commissioners

 

In the wake of attacks on the religious minorities in the post-polls violence in various parts of the country, the Home Ministry has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and all divisional commissioners to provide additional security for them to prevent such attacks.

 

The directives were given through letters faxed to the IGP and the divisional commissioners on Wednesday evening, said highly placed sources at the Home Ministry.

 

The ministry has asked the IGP to direct all police supers to take necessary measures to ensure security of the members of the minority communities and regain their confidence as they the citizens of the country.

 

It also asked for identifying those who have recently carried out attacks on the religious minorities and taking legal action against them.

 

Directive was also given to prevent reoccurrence of such incident and coming up with actual information about the attacks and the extent of damage.

 

In letters sent to the divisional commissioners, the Home Ministry asked for directing deputy commissioners and UNOs to take immediate steps to prevent attacks on the minorities.

 

The Home Ministry also asked the DCs and SPs of Gaibandha and Kurigram to immediately submit probe reports on the communal attacks on the religious minorities so that action can be taken against the attackers.

 

Earlier on Tuesday, the ministry directed DCs and SPs of Jessore, Dinajpur and Dhaka to conduct quick probe into the communal attacks on the Hindu community members and post-polls violence.
