Padma Bridge: Construction supervision job to Army-BUET team gets cabinet body nod

Cabinet Purchase Committee on Sunday approved a proposal to appoint Bangladesh Army in association with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) as construction supervision consultant (CSC) for three packages of Padma Multipurpose Bridge construction works.

 

The three packages of works are ‘Jazira Approach Road and Selected Bridge End Facilities’, ‘Mawa Approach Road and Selected Bridge End Facilities’, and the ‘works in Service Area-2’.

 

The Cabinet purchase body meeting, with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair, also approved another six proposals.

 

The Bangladesh Army’s Special Work Organisation (SWO) in association with the BUET’s Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation will carry out the job at a cost of Tk 133.48 crore. In addition to this cost, the Army will get another Tk 72.13 crore for engineering support and safety team service.

 

The Communications Ministry’s proposal revealed that though the amount of Tk 133.48 crore remained allocated in the revised development project proposal (RDPP), there is no allocation for the additional Tk 72.13 crore.

 

Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) mentioned in the proposal that the proposed amount of Tk 133.48 crore for CSC works is 6.97 percent higher than the estimated cost and 8.67 percent lower than the cost of same type of works conducted by other contractors like Aecom, HPR and Oriental.

 

As per the approvals, the Food Ministry will procure 15 million jute sacks from state-owned Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) at a cost of Tk 105 crore under the direct procurement process.

 

Railway Ministry’s proposal for appointing a contractor for supply of rail, sleeper and other facilities for its Chinkiastana-Ashuganj section received the nod of the Cabinet body. Max Atuomobile Products Ltd won the contract at a cost of Tk 299.73 crore.

 

The contractor’s service fee for the NGO services for implementation of Resettlement Plans of Padma multipurpose bridge project was extended by Tk 7.13 crore.

 

The charges of independent checking engineer for examining the detailed design consultant’s design of the Padma Bridge was also extended by Tk 2.02 crore.

 

The Cabinet Body also approved Shipping Ministry’s proposal for appointing six (6) berth operators for GCB areas for general cargo handling works at a cost of Tk 73.41 crore.

 

Two cost extension proposals of the Implementation Monitoring Evaluation Division (IMED) for its public procurement reforms works also received the Cabinet body nod.
