Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has rescued a businessman from Savar who was allegedly abducted on Thursday night from Narayanganj.
Saiful Islam, 35, was found near the National Memorial at Nabinagar around 11:45pm on Friday, RAB’s Additional Director General Ziaul Ahsan told bdnews24.com.
He said a RAB team was following the vehicle of the abductors. “They suddenly tossed Saiful Islam out of it and fled.”
Family and Islam’s business manager alleged that he went missing from Narayanganj’s Sanarparh on Thursday night.
Siddhirganj Police Station OC Abdul Matin earlier in the day told reporters that the manager told them the kidnappers had contacted Saiful Islam’s wife Sadia Afrin over phone and demanded Tk 1 million as ransom.
Sadia also lodged a general diary (GD) with police over the ‘abduction’.
However, Narayanganj’s Superintendent of Police Mohid Uddin had expressed his doubts saying, “It’s not clear whether it is a case of abduction.”
On Friday morning, locals also came out on the street asking for Islam’s whereabouts.
They protested by blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong highway near Sanarparh bus terminal.
Bodies of seven men including a city corporation councillor, abducted from Narayanganj on Apr 27, were recovered on Wednesday and Thursday from the Shitalakhya River.
