Mani leads in Khulna

Moniruzzaman Mani, backed by the 18-Party Alliance, has taken a lead of 17,408 votes in 102 of 288 centres in Khulna City Corporation polls.

The Returning Officer announced the results from the control room set up at the Government Zilla School on Saturday.

Moni, who contested with ‘pineapple’ symbol, secured 55,314 votes. His nearest contestant, Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque with ‘lock’ symbol, got 37,672 votes, Presiding Officers of the centres told bdnews24.com.

A total of 440,566 people – 216,062 of them female – were expected to have cast their votes on Saturday to elect public representatives for the next five years.
