The openers gave the Lankans a superb start as they took apart the Bangladeshi bowling scoring 110 in only 13 overs losing just one wicket.

A flood light failure reduced the match to 41 overs for Sri Lanka which will saw a fresh target for the hosts at 238. Play was paused for over an hour due to the technical error.

Earlier in Bangladesh’s innings Tamim Iqbal smashed a brilliant hundred as the visitors scored 259 for 8 against Sri Lanka in the 1st day-night ODI at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota  on Saturday.

After being put in to bat a strong partnership between Tamim and Nasir Hossain gave Bangladesh a healthy total.

Tamim perished but not before hitting his fourth ODI century at 112. Nasir smashed a smart 67 not out to take the visitors to 259 in fifty overs.

Malinga took two wickets.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and asked Bangladesh to bat first.

Satellite television channel Maasranga TV and Ten Cricket are telecasting the match live from 3:00pm (BST).

The 2nd match will also be played in Hambantota on March 25, before the 3rd and final encounter in Pallekele on March 28.
