Jubo League men ‘vandalise’ 17 buses in Dhaka

Star Online Report

Some activists of Jubo League today allegedly vandalised at least 17 buses and beat up some bus staff at the Shakhari Bazar area in Old Dhaka.

Witnesses and buss staff said that some Jubo League men led by Md Afjal, a ward level leader of Dhaka South Unit of Jubo League, carried out the vandalism this noon.

“The attackers also vandalised our bus counter and beat up two colleagues,” one staff said seeking anonymity.

They also claimed that some local leaders of Dhaka South Unit Jubo League asked them to give money to their followers earlier.

“As we did not give them any money, their followers attacked our buses,” they alleged.

No case has been filed in this regard till 8:00pm, said Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

Claiming to be an acting organising secretary of Sutrapur’s Ward-43 unit of Jobo League, the detained Afjal said, “Junior brothers vandalised some buses as the bus staff misbehaved with us.”

“When our brothers went to the bus staff on Sunday night to get some buses for our programmes, the bus staff assaulted our two brothers,” he said.

However, a bus staff of Supravat Paribahan, seeking anonymity, said, “We did not assault any Jubo League man earlier.”

When asked about the matter, Jubo League Dhaka South Unit General Secretary Rezaul Karim Reza said, “No Jubo League man of our unit was involved in any kind of extortion.”
