India hands over bodies of 3 Bangladeshis

The bodies of three Bangladesh nationals killed by Indian civilians in Tripura were handed over to Bangladesh border guards here on Monday night.

Second-in-command of Teliamora camp of Indian Border Security Force Birendra Vajpayee and Khowai Police Station officer-in-charge Narayan Chakrawarty handed over the bodies to Border Guard Bangladesh through Balla border in Chunarughat upazila around 7:45pm.

Lt Col Chowdhury Saiful Islam Kawser, commanding officer of BGB Srimangal battalion, received the bodies. Tajul Islam, chairman of Gazipur union in Chunarughat, was also present.

The three Bangladeshi nationals — Siddique Ali, 52, Anwar Miah, 40, and Omar Ali, 45, — all hailing from Gazipur union of Chunarughat upazila, were chopped to death in the Khowai town of Tripura state, close to the border, on Saturday night.

Sector commander of BGB Srimangal Col Tariqul Islam Khan said some Indian villagers hacked the trio to death suspecting them to be cattle lifters as they were returning home with cattle.

The bodies of the three Bangladeshis were returned soon after Bangladesh requested the Indian authorities to immediately hand over their bodies, and launch a probe into the atrocious incident.

Bangladesh also asked India to take appropriate actions at the earliest against those responsible in the atrocious killing.
