Holy Ashura Nov 25

The holy Ashura will be observed across the country on November 25, as the moon of Muharram month was sighted on Thursday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at Islamic Foundation conference room with Director General of Islamic Foundation and member secretary of the committee Shamim Mohammad Afzal in the chair, said a PID handout.

Chief Information Officer Aminul Islam, joint secretary of Information Ministry Mohammad Bajlur Rahman, joint secretary of Religions Affairs Ministry Hasan Jahangir Alam, joint secretary of Cabinet Division Mohammad Dilwar Bakth, Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Prof Maulana M Salah Uddin and Principal of Dhaka Alia Madrasha Prof Dr AKM Yakub Hossain were present at the meeting.

Ashura is observed on the 10th Muharram to commemorate the Karbala tragedy in which Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) along with his family members and followers embraced martyrdom.
