The meet will take place at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka Sunday morning, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim told bdnews24.com.

“Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak will accompany me at the meeting,” she said on Saturday.

A senior official of the home ministry said two representatives from Facebook’s Asia Pacific Region headquarters would be meeting the ministers.

The meeting will take place against the backdrop of the government move on Nov 18 to block access to Facebook, its messenger app and some other communication apps on grounds of national security.

However, many have been using proxy servers to access Facebook and the other apps.

It may be recalled that only two days ago Tarana Halim had said that the social networking site had responded to the government’s letter proposing discussions on some adverse effects of Facebook use in Bangladesh.

She also said that Facebook would be sending a senior executive to Dhaka soon.

She added that the government would impress upon the social media giant the need for it to respond rapidly to any complaint.

The state minister recently also expressed interest in striking a deal with Facebook to prevent posting of ‘objectionable’ contents.
