Ganguly open to coaching Bangladesh

“I will think about it when the issue will come up. No point in thinking about it beforehand,” he said at a function at a local hotel in Dhaka on Monday.

Ganguly is in Bangladesh as a commentator for the World Twenty20.

“Good coaches need to be brought for all the teams of the subcontinent because a coach plays a crucial role. Bangladesh need a coach who will be handy for them,” he added.

Bangladesh played their inaugural Test against India in November 2000. Ganguly led India in the match which India won by nine wickets.

He keeps himself posted about Bangladesh cricket and expected a much better show from them in the global event.

“I always want Bangladesh to play well. They soon need to fix their weaknesses. They are not going through a good time.”

Ganguly, who is one of the most successful Indian captains of all times, expressed his confidence in the Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim.

“Mushfiq is a good player. A team never depends on one player. If no one does well, what can the captain alone do? To put up a good show everyone needs to chip in.”

Although the Tigers’ top order was awfully frail throughout the World Cup, Anamul Haque was an exception. Ganguly feels optimistic about the right-handed opener.

“I liked Anamul Haque’s batting. But he will have to perform consistently like Dhoni, Virat Kohli.”

Bangladesh have been playing T20s since the inception of the shorter format. So Ganguly is reluctant to accept that their poor show in the world event is due to inexperience.

“It is wrong to say that they lack experience. Bangladesh have been playing T20 cricket since its start. They need to nurture players who can perform regularly.”
