They gave the call from a rally at Shahbagh in the capital on Friday.

The rally was organised in protests against “police atrocities” on Mancha activists and leaders who were marching towards Pakistan High Commission on Thursday.

A week-long campaign to boycott Pakistani goods will also be launched across the country from Saturday, said Maruf Rosul, one of the Mancha organisers.

A protest note will also be submitted to the home ministry and another to the foreign ministry, protesting against the police attack on the Mancha men and demanding suspension of diplomatic ties with Pakistan on Sunday.

Rosul also demanded removal of all policemen who had attacked the freedom fighters, ‘Biranganas’ (female brave hearts) and Mancha activists.

“Police spoke in the language of Jamaat. That means Jamaat and its student wing activists have infiltrated the police.”

“Ganajagaran Mancha activists will give a befitting reply to the police for the attack. They should not presume that we are weak only because we are non-violent. Our whole strength lies in our Joy Bangla slogan.”

“The best children of the nation: freedom fighters were, are and will be with us.”

After a long judicial process, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Molla was hanged on Dec 12 for his crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s War of Independence in 1971.

He had been sentenced to death by the country’s International Crimes Tribunal for his war-time crimes.

Pakistan’s National Assembly passed a resolution on Dec 16, terming Molla a loyal supporter of the ‘United Pakistan’ and expressing concern at his hanging.

Bangladesh erupted in protests against the resolution and Pakistan’s flags were burnt at various places in the country.

Ganajagaran Mancha had on Wednesday marched towards Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka City’s Gulshan demanding suspension of diplomatic ties with Pakistan.

They had also given government a 20-hour ultimatum to cut ties with Pakistan.

After the expiry of their ultimatum, the Mancha again on Thursday took out a procession and started marching towards the Pakistan embassy when police attacked and dispersed them.

Imran H Sarker, spokesperson for the Mancha, and some other activists were injured in the incident.

Bangladesh attained its independence after a nine-month bloody battle in 1971. Molla is one of those who had collaborated with Pakistani army and perpetrated genocide in Bangladesh.

After hanging of Molla, Pakistan Jamaat took to the streets denouncing the execution.
