A Dhaka court has placed Shafiur Rahman Farabi on 10-day remand in a case filed over the murder of blogger-writer Avijit Roy.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, the investigation officer produced him before the court with a 10-day remand plea.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested extremist Farabi from Jatrabari bus stand on Monday morning.

Avijit, 45, was hacked to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna was seriously injured in an attack by unidentified assailants near the TSC of Dhaka University on February 26.

Friends and family of Avijit Roy said the outspoken humanist had been receiving death threats since 2012.

Farabi is one militant with whom Avijit is known to have debated online.

His exchanges with Avijit resulted in death threats against the blogger.
