Ex-RAB officer Tarek admits to N’ganj killing

The court has sent Ex-RAB officer Tarek Sayeed Mohammad to jail after recording his statement

Former official of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Tarek Sayeed Mohammad has confessed of his involvement with the Narayanganj seven murders incident on Wednesday.

The court of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin recorded his confessional statement under section 164 around 12noon.

District Lawyers’ Association President Sakhawat Hossain confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about Tarek’s confession.

The former RAB official was brought to the court premises around 8am and took four hours to take the final decision, said Sakhawat.

After recording his statement, the court sent him to jail.

Earlier, Maj (retd) Arif Hossain and former RAB-officer Lt Commander MM Rana confessed of their involvements with the seven murders in Narayanganj.

Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar along with five others were killed and their bodies were dumped into River Shitalakkhya after they were abducted on April 27.

The family members of Nazrul alleged that RAB 11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and two other RAB 11 officials–Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana–killed all the seven persons for Tk6 crore.

On April 28, the authorities concerned had withdrawn all the three RAB-11 officials along with the Narayanganj superintendent of police and the deputy commissioner.

Following the allegations, the AFD sent Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and Major Rana on premature retirement from the Army and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana on forced retirement from the Navy.
