‘Evening masters course to be continued at RU’

VC terms students’ demonstration as irrational

The evening masters course will be continued in this university as the other public universities in the country are also conducting the same programmes, said Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Mizanuddin.

He made the statement while talking journalists at a press meet at the Senate building in the afternoon.

He said: “Evening masters course has been introduced through due process and passed according to the approval of the academic counsel and syndicate meeting.”

Terming the students’ demo against evening shift irrational, the VC said: “The academic counsel and syndicate, the two highest body of the university, have elaborately discussed the merits and demerits of the course.”

He also said: “we have cancelled the decision to increase the fees in response to the demands of the students but the evening courses could not be cancelled because it will never affect the regular students.”

If the students have any complain regarding the authority’s decision, it will be solved subsequent to a discussion with the general students. Even the authority is also ready to arrange an open debate to discuss with the students, the VC added.

He also sought cooperation from all counters of the university to reopen the university on March, 10 peacefully.

Replying to a query, the VC said the police had been directed to arrest the gun-toting Bangladesh Chhatra League men, who attacked the general students.

The VC also expressed sorry for the February 2 violence adding that they would take stern action against the responsible persons.

“As the university is closed, the prove committee members failed to collect adequate data and information regarding violence. After the reopening of the campus, the committee will submit report,” said the VC.
