Pran Kumar Sharma, known as cartoonist Pran who created the iconic cartoon character Chacha Chaudhary, dies at

the age of 75

The eminent cartoonist succumbed to cancer early on Wednesday at a hospital in Gurgaon, reports The Hindu.

Pran, who gave life to the lovable comic characters Chacha Chaudhary and his friend Sabu, had been suffering from cancer of the intestine for the past eight months.

“Pran passed away at 9am at the Medanta hospital. He is survived by a son and a daughter,” says Gulshan Rai, Publisher, Diamond Comics.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Pran “as a versatile cartoonist who brought smiles on the faces of people through his rich work” and expressed his grief on Twitter.
