British envoy visits Bangabandhu’s grave in Tungiparha

The British High Commissioner in Dhaka, now visiting southern districts, has paid homage to Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s graveyard at Tungiparha in Gopalganj.

Robert Gibson started his tour from Sunday from Barisal.

He reached Tungiparha at about 1.30pm on Monday from Barisal en route to Khulna.

The High Commissioner spent at least 30 minutes amid rain at the grave premises and wrote comments on the visitors’ book.

He stood in silence for some time before Bangabandhu’s grave as a mark of respect.

Bangladesh’s founding father was assassinated on Aug 15, 1975 along with his family members. His two daughters including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina survived as they were abroad.

Gibson also visited his parents’ graveyard. He then went to the library and collection centre inside the grave premises.

The British mission officials and local administrators accompanied him.

He left Tungipara for Khulna at about 2pm.
