Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced to give flats and cars along with prize money to Bangladesh cricketers for their brilliant performance in the World Cup and Pakistan series.
The Tigers’ clinical 3-0 ODI series sweep and maiden T20 International win against Pakistan followed their most successful campaign in the showcase event in Australia and New Zealand.
The prime minister congratulated Bangladesh team during a reception at the Ganabhaban on Saturday.
Bangladesh overwhelmed Pakistan by seven wickets to seal their first 20-over match win against the 2009 World T20 champions at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Sheikh Hasina had on Friday handed the limited-over series trophy to captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza after the match and invited the whole team to the Ganabhaban.
In the ceremony, BCB President Nazmul Hassan gave an account of money received from the ICC after Bangladesh progressed to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The prime minister announced additional rewards for the players too.
She said the team had received Tk 10 million as winning bonus in the World Cup and Tk 30 million more from ICC. Mashrafe and Co would receive another Tk 12.3 million from the BCB.
The Tigers would get Tk 10 million more for their inspiring performance in the World Cup and another Tk 10 million for the limited-overs series sweep against Pakistan. Beximco would reward the team with another Tk 10 million, she added.
The government would also provide cars and housing accommodation to the national team players, the prime minister said.
The prime minister joined the team and board officials for lunch after the reception.
