His ministry released a statement on Monday saying one Kausar Ahmed Sajib of Brahmanbarhia’s Kosba Upazila had issued the threat in a Facebook post.

Brahmanbaria is the electoral constituency of Huq.

The statement said a case under the ICT Act was filed at Kosba Police Station against Sajib, who is currently in Bahrain.

The ministry’s spokesperson Abdullah Al Shahin also confirmed the lodging of the case.

Sajib’s father Hebju Miah, a local BNP leader, is behind bars in another case, said the statement.

It also claimed that Sajib was involved with the Islami Chhatra Shibir unit of Mulgram Union at the Upazila.

Shibir is the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. The party’s Senior Assistant Secretary General Mohammad Kamaruzzaman was hanged last Saturday for his 1971 war crimes.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid had received the death threat in a text message on his mobile phone.

The sender threatened to kill the minister and attack his family members, the ministry’s Deputy Secretary Subodh Chandra Dhali told bdnews24.com last Sunday.

He said a police complaint was subsequently filed.
