Pakistani batsman Shoaib Malik said on Thursday that they are the favourites against their arch-rivals India during their campaign opener in the Asia Cup Twenty20 tournament on Saturday.
Pakistan team arrived in Bangladesh with loads of Twenty20 cricket behind their back, thanks to the just concluded Pakistan Super League in UAE.
Malik believes their cricketers are carrying the right frame of mind ahead of their crucial encounter against India after having some good times in Twenty20 format.
‘We are the favourites [against India],’Malik told reporters at a city hotel on Thursday. ‘We just played the PSL and everyone is confident about their own capabilities.
‘They [India] are playing competitive cricket at the moment. But we know our abilities and would be banking on them,’ he said.
Pakistan never defeated India in a World Cup match be it 50-50 or Twenty20 format.
The former Pakistan skipper said that they are not sure about their line-up and would prepare according to the requirement of the day against India.
‘I think the skipper can tell about the XI but whether we will go with four pace bowlers or five pace bowlers we will decide after seeing the pitch,’ said Malik.
Pakistan have got five seamers — Mohammad Amir, Anwar Ali, Wahab Riaz,Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Ali in their line-up.
India got off to a flying start in the tournament with a 45-run win over hosts Bangladesh on Wednesday.
