The heavy precipitation accompanied by gusty wind on Thursday morning cooled the environment after days of sweltering heat in the capital while it caused untold torments to the city dwellers.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast intermittent rainfall that may last two to three hours in the city today.
A met official said such rainy weather may persist for four to five days. ‘Active monsoon’ caused the shower across the country, he explained.
Met office recorded 12 milimetres rainfall from 6:00am to 9:00am.
The monsoon trough was so intense that it darkened the city as if it was a night. Most of the morning-shift students could not attend schools and colleges. Office goers ran late.
The Met official said the rain also occurred at Khagrachari and in the districts of Dhaka and Sylhet divisions.
Meanwhile, the dwellers of the capital are experiencing sufferings for the heavy shower.
Water logged on the streets and development works made the roads impassable in places.
Most of the city streets were inundated with some creating strong currents and waves, a rare view in the capital.
The traffic deadlock may not ease soon as a good number of vehicles ran wrong and obstructed morning commuters, witnesses said.
In another development, rain delayed the start of the second day’s play in one-off Test between India and Bangladesh at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah of Narayanganj this morning.
Thick cloud covered the sky following a heavy shower early in the morning, leaving both the teams confined in their hotel.
