Some Jubo League men allegedly forced some voters in Dhaka South city corporation elections to vote for Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Sayed Khokon.
Witnesses said the ruling party men took control of polling stations 375 and 376 set up in an old building in Bangabazar area after forcing the BNP’s polling agents out of the area.
“The BNP polling agents were caught and asked to get out of the stations,” said a witness named Mohan Hossain.
Zakir Hossain Rana, who claimed himself to be a Jubo League leader, was seen forcing the common voters in one centre to vote for Sayed Khokon.
“Sayed Khokon has spent a lot of money to win the election. He gave us money to work for him,” Zakir said in front of a few.
Abu Affan, presiding officer assigned for the two polling stations, said he informed the election commission of such incidents.
He, however, mentioned that the commission did not give any decision in this regard as yet.
The duty officer of the police refused to talk about rigging when he was asked to comment on the matter.
