Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) officials have detained an official of Chittagong Tax Circle-4 while taking bribe at his office on Sunday afternoon.
Zahid Iqbal, chief assistant of Chittagong Tax Circle-4, was caught red-handed with the bribed money Tk20,000.
Director Abdul Aziz Bhuyian of ACC in Chittagong told the Dhaka Tribune that they, in guise of stakeholders, nabbed Zahid Iqbal from his office around 12:30pm.
The Tax official was handed over to Double Mooring police station.
Legislative measures were being taken till filing this report, said the director.
He said Zahid was demanding bribe from BTCL Deputy Assistant Engineer Kashem Bhuiyan to reduce his housing tax for a few days.
“As the engineer denied giving bribe, the tax official did not give him the demand note. Then the BTCL official informed the matter to the ACC,” said the ACC director.
“ACC officials along with the BTCL official went to the Tax official’s office with his demanded money. When he took the money the ACC men caught him red handed,” he added.
