Shahidul Islam, father-in-law of slain Narayanganj city councillor Nazrul Islam, has said that he does not thin that ruling Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman was not involved in the sensational seven-murder case of Narayanganj.
“Rather a certain quarter is playing dirty politics involving Shamim Osman. I think he (Shamim Osman) wasn’t involved in the murder,” Shahidul said at a press briefing at Dhaka Reports’ Unity.
Shahidul also claimed that those who leaked the telephone conversation between Shamim and Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the multiple murder case, might be involved in the gruesome killings.
“If they (may be law enforcers) knew where Nur Hossain was staying, then why they don’t arrest him,” Shahidul questioned.
He said that the telephone conversations and records of Abu Sufian, a powerful contractor of Narayanganj City Corporation and also a close person of city mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, businessman Chand Mia, one notorious Selim and Nur Hossain’s bodyguard Hasan were also leaked, but no one was questioning those.
“Why Abu Sufian isn’t being questioned in the police custody? Should we think that they were the masterminds and money supplier for the killings? Is the certain quarter is trying to save them?” he said.
Shahidul said that Shamim Osman talked to Nur Hossain several times from April 27-29 which does not prove that the Awami League lawmaker helped Nur Hossain to flee the country.
“Rather these reveals that those who leaked the telephone conversations had helped him (Nur Hossain) flee the country,” he said.
Referring to the arrest of former RAB officer Lieutenant Colonel Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, son-in-law of Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, he said that no body would be spared.
Shahidul said he had confidence on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He, however, did not take any questions from journalists and at one stage he left the press briefing in a hurry.
Narayanganj city councillor Nazrul Islam and his four aides, senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were abducted almost at the same time on April 27 after they left the court area by two cars in Narayanganj.
Six bodies, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river three days later, and another was found the following day.
On May 4, Nazrul’s father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that some RAB men had abducted and murdered the Narayanganj city councillor in exchange for Tk 6 crore. He claimed that some workers saw RAB men abducting Nazrul near Shibu Market in Narayanganj on April 27.
The government on May 6 dismissed three officials of RAB-11 from the services for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of seven people.
Narayanganj city councillor Nur Hossain, also Siddhirganj Upazila unit Awami League vice-president, is the prime accused in the case filed in connection with the multiple-murder case.
